Help Us Help West African Students
This is the Deal
We are Exponential Education- an education NGO that is operating in the heart of Kumasi, Ghana's second largest city. We are looking for volunteers to help us with our after school programs in Ghana's junior and senior high schools.
You would be helping us in our Kumasi office and at various schools around the city and in the suburbs. Some days you might visit a high school to help us enroll students in our programs, others you might work with students one-on-one in the office to help them research universities and scholarship opportunities.
You'd be expected to work 5 days a week for about 5 hours a day - although this varies throughout the school year.
We have a house in the suburbs outside of Kumasi. The accommodation is "Ghana Good" - a firm mattress, bucket flush toilet and cold running water from the tap. There's plenty of food vendors within walking distance from the house. We'll give you a food stipend of 5 GHC per day and you'll have access our the kitchen to cook.
On your days off, you can explore the city and the surrounding areas. Kumasi is centrally located in Ghana and is a good launching point for adventures across the country. At a weaving village outside the city, see intricate cloth woven by hand. Head down to the coast and enjoy pristine beaches and see old slave forts. Help local fisherman bring in the catch. Head into the bush and visit a fetish priest - channeling various spirits, he will bless you or tell you your future.
Ghana is a beautiful country filled with friendly people -"Africa for beginners" according to the guidebooks. We have come to love this place and we'd love to share it with you.
